African materials, textiles, prints and textures and styles have been strutted on fashion show runways and seen sported on ladies on Main Street from Europe to the US to Australia and of course Africa for a few seasons now.
As New York Fashion Week in New York City round to a close this week, last night, designer Finda Oniugbo shared pieces from her latest collection during the African Fashion NOW event and exhibit at artists' lofts of Studio 25 in the rising artsy Shaw district in Washington DC.
The event, thrown by stylist KK Senesie of Komeh Productions, brought culture, arts and fashion together at an intimate event attended by socialites, fashionistas and fashion bloggers.

After the exhibit, guests sipped wine, nibbled appetizers, mingled and got a chance to check out the latest series from DC-based artist Asha called Female Sex Malfunction. She described the installment. It represents women, and the different ways they misinterpret messages and inadvertently use sex and confuse it for love in their search for a home for their hearts. Much of the pieces, brightly colored, include a red heart as a consistent theme in each piece which included a cartoonish caricature of the woman's body.
